Tamil Nadu is reeling from the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which brought heavy rains and strong winds to the region. At least three people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, with 234 huts damaged and thousands of hectares of farmland flooded. According to Disaster Management Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, approximately 56,000 hectares of farmland have been inundated, with the worst-hit districts including Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai. The Minister reported that 24,000 farmlands in Nagapattinam, 15,000 in Tiruvarur, and 8,000 in Mayiladuthurai were affected. The state government has taken measures to prepare for the cyclone, establishing 38 relief camps across vulnerable districts. These camps are currently accommodating 2,391 people. The government has also deployed 38 disaster response teams, including 12 NDRF and 16 TNDRF teams. Cyclone Ditwah is moving northwards at a speed of 7 kmph and is expected to narrow further to just 30 km by this evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts, warning of intensified rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding. As the cyclone continues to intensify, Chief Minister MK Stalin is expected to determine the relief measures after the rains subside. The state government is working to mitigate the impact of the cyclone and provide assistance to those affected.
