Chennai residents woke up to heavy rain on Monday morning as Cyclone Ditwah weakened into a deep depression, prompting authorities to close all schools and colleges in the city and several neighboring districts. The precautionary measure includes government, private, and aided educational institutions in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and other rain-hit areas, aiming to ensure public safety. The Tamil Nadu government has placed several districts under high alert due to persistent rainfall, with 'Orange' and 'Yellow' alerts issued for various regions. The weather office has warned of intense rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding in districts such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram. Meanwhile, neighboring Puducherry has also declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Monday, as the Union Territory braces for heavy rainfall linked to Cyclone Ditwah's outer bands. As of late November 30, Cyclone Ditwah weakened into a deep depression while drifting northwards at 5 kmph, with the system hovering close to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline. The IMD forecast warns of heavy rain over north Tamil Nadu on December 1, with intense showers expected in Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema, and Telangana through December 2. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely across Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions until December 3.
