Cyclone Ditwah Claims 3 Lives in Tamil Nadu, Devastating 57,000 Hectares of Farmland

Tamil Nadu is reeling from the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which has claimed the lives of three people. According to Minister KKSSR Ramachandran, the cyclone has caused widespread destruction, with 149 cattle dead and 57,000 hectares of farmland affected in the delta districts. The minister reported that two people lost their lives due to wall collapses in Tuticorin and Thanjavur, while a 20-year-old youth died from electrocution in Mayiladuthurai. The cyclone has also left a trail of destruction in agricultural lands, with 24,000 hectares affected in Nagapattinam, 15,000 hectares in Thiruvarur, and 8,000 hectares in Mayiladuthurai. A total of 234 huts have been damaged in the delta districts, prompting the government to deploy 28 disaster response teams, including SDRF and NDRF. Additional teams from other states have also been brought in to assist with relief and rehabilitation efforts. The government has established a control room to coordinate with district administrations in coastal towns and areas affected by the rains. Minister Ramachandran assured that any assistance required will be provided immediately after being brought to the notice of the chief minister. Meanwhile, the weather office reported that Karaikal in Puducherry received the highest rainfall of 19 cm in the last 24 hours, while Sembanarkoil in Mayiladuthurai district recorded 17 cm as of 8.30 am on Sunday.
