In response to the severe weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Education Minister of Puducherry, A. Namachivayam, announced the closure of all government, government-aided, and private schools in the territory. This decision comes as Cyclone Ditwah brings heavy rainfall to the region, prompting a red alert for several districts in Tamil Nadu. The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall spells of over 15 mm per hour, accompanied by strong winds of 40-60 kmph, which has led to the suspension of fishing operations in the affected areas. As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Kancheepuram districts were closed on December 2. Additionally, the state's Disaster Management Minister, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, confirmed that three people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents caused by Cyclone Ditwah in Tamil Nadu. The closure of schools in Puducherry aims to ensure the safety of students in the face of intense rainfall and potential waterlogging. The decision will be reassessed in the morning to determine the next course of action.
