A powerful cyclone, Cyclone Ditwah, is closing in on the Tamil Nadu coast, prompting Chief Minister M K Stalin to review the state's preparedness. The cyclone, which has been moving slowly northwards, is expected to bring heavy rainfall to southern and Cauvery delta districts between November 29 and 30. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the affected areas, warning of rough to very rough sea conditions. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, while the public has been asked to stay indoors and avoid coastal areas. CM Stalin has directed officials to remain on high alert, especially in locations that were badly hit by Cyclone Montha last month. The state government has deployed senior officials in vulnerable districts, and all of them have reached their assigned areas. The officials have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and take steps to prevent any disruption. The state disaster response force and NDRF teams have been deployed in districts expecting heavy rainfall. Essential items, including food and milk, have been stockpiled, and camps have been readied with supplies. Orders have been issued for the immediate evacuation of people from low-lying areas. The health department has been instructed to ensure medical teams are available round the clock in all government hospitals, while steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply in all hospitals. The Southern Railway has cancelled the Rameswaram-Okha Express and changed the origin of 11 trains operated in the Rameswaram-Chennai sector due to the cyclone. The public has been advised to follow official advisories and avoid spreading rumours. Stay safe and stay alert, as your caution can save lives.
