Chennai: To mitigate the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has directed the health department to provide round-the-clock medical support in all government hospitals. The move comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall on November 29 and 30 in the southern and delta districts. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of south Andhra Pradesh by early morning on November 30. To prevent a repeat of previous hospital flooding incidents, Subramanian has ensured that over 14,000 hospitals have upgraded infrastructure. Additionally, the health department will organize special medical camps in areas reporting fever cases among multiple individuals. The minister also emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring to prevent waterlogging in hospitals. Separately, Subramanian presented skill training certificates and a ₹50,000 grant to 13 transgender beneficiaries, highlighting Tamil Nadu's commitment to their welfare. The state is the only one to have established a welfare board for transgender persons, set up in 2008 by the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Chief Minister M K Stalin has further implemented various schemes, including financial subsidies and skill training, to support destitute transgender individuals above 40 and recognize exceptional talents in various fields.
