A powerful Cyclone Ditwah is barreling towards the Indian coast, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a warning for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh. The storm, which originated as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall in the early hours of November 30, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. According to the IMD, Cyclone Ditwah is currently located 90km south-southeast of Batticaloa in Sri Lanka and is moving in a north-northwesterly direction. The system is expected to continue tracking along the Sri Lanka coast before emerging over the Bay of Bengal, where it will intensify and pose a threat to the Indian coastline. Residents in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh have been advised to remain vigilant and follow updates from the authorities as the situation develops. Meanwhile, a tsunami alert was issued for the Andaman and Nicobar region following a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Sumatra, but was later cancelled. Cyclone Ditwah is believed to be a remnant of Cyclone 'Senyar' that moved through the Strait of Malacca. The system has been steadily strengthening over the past several hours, moving at a speed of 18kmph in the past 6 hours. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
