A powerful cyclonic storm, 'Senyar', is barreling towards the coast of Indonesia, prompting warnings of heavy rainfall and strong winds in several Indian states. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm, which formed over the Strait of Malacca, is expected to maintain its intensity for the next 24 hours before gradually weakening. The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala from November 25 to December 1. The storm is expected to make landfall in Indonesia on Wednesday, November 26, before moving west-southwestwards and then recurving eastwards in the subsequent 48 hours. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe, Lakshadweep, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These storms may bring heavy rain and gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph. The name 'Senyar', which means 'lion', was proposed by the United Arab Emirates. The system has been moving nearly westwards at a speed of 10 kmph and is expected to continue in a west-northwestwards direction. In a separate development, a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of south Sri Lanka and the equatorial Indian Ocean has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area. The system is expected to move north-northwestwards and intensify into a depression within 24 hours. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow the latest weather updates to ensure their safety. The IMD has urged people to take necessary precautions and follow instructions from local authorities to minimize the impact of the storm.
