A powerful cyclonic storm, Cyclone Senyar, has formed over the Bay of Bengal, intensifying fears of heavy rainfall and strong winds in parts of southern India. The storm, named 'Senyar' meaning 'lion' by the United Arab Emirates, is expected to maintain its intensity for the next 24 hours before gradually weakening. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Senyar is currently centered near latitude 5.0°N and longitude 98.0°E, approximately 100 km east of Kuta Makmur, Indonesia, and 740 km southeast of Car Nicobar, Nicobar Islands. In addition to Cyclone Senyar, another low-pressure system is brewing over the southwest Bay of Bengal, posing further threats to the region. The IMD has issued heavy rain alerts for several southern states, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala, between November 25 and December 1. The affected areas can expect heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph. Residents in these regions are advised to stay alert and follow the latest updates from the IMD. The authorities are on high alert, preparing for potential evacuations and relief measures in case of severe weather conditions.
