A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression over the South Andaman Sea within the next 12 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). If the system develops into a cyclonic storm, it would be referred to as 'Senyar', a name submitted by the United Arab Emirates that typically means 'lion'. The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several southern states between November 25 and December 1. The affected regions include Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Heavy rainfall is expected to hit these areas, with very heavy rainfall predicted in Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning are also forecasted for these regions, accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph. The IMD has also warned of rough to very rough sea conditions between November 25 and November 27 in the South Andaman Sea, Strait of Malacca, and along and off the Nicobar Islands. The system is currently located near the Strait of Malacca and is moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 10 kmph. The IMD has predicted that the system will continue to move in this direction and intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours. Further intensification is expected subsequently.
