A daring rescue operation unfolded in Daman's Nani Daman area on Tuesday, as forest personnel worked tirelessly for 10 hours to capture a rogue leopard that had taken refuge in a local sweet shop. The big cat, which had been spotted roaming the city's streets over the past two days, was cornered on the third floor of the shop, prompting a multi-agency response involving police, forest officials, and a rapid rescue team from Maharashtra. During the operation, the leopard proved to be a formidable foe, attacking forest personnel multiple times and leaving one staff member with minor injuries. Despite the challenges, the team persevered, using tranquillising guns, nets, and a trap cage to finally subdue the animal. The rescue effort, which involved senior officials including District Collector Saurabh Mishra, was a testament to the coordination and bravery of those involved. The leopard, which was later taken to a safe location, had been spotted near Dhobi Talav on Monday night before entering the sweet shop. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of wildlife conservation and the need for effective measures to prevent such encounters in densely populated areas.
