Delhi residents experienced a slight reprieve from the biting cold on Wednesday, with the minimum temperature rising to 3.8 degrees Celsius. However, the relief is short-lived as this reading is still 3.6 degrees Celsius below the normal temperature. Dense fog continues to envelop parts of the city and nearby areas in Uttar Pradesh, including Noida and Ghaziabad. The city recorded its coldest temperature in three years on Tuesday, with the mercury dipping to 3 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory. This reading is the lowest January temperature since 2023. A "feeble western disturbance" is expected to bring some relief to the region later this week, with nighttime temperatures likely to rise from Thursday onward. In the meantime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an "orange alert" for cold wave conditions, warning of continued health risks for vulnerable populations. Neighboring Haryana's Gurugram saw a slight improvement in temperatures, rising from 0.6 degrees Celsius on Monday to 3.2 degrees Celsius the next day. Residents in the area experienced frost and thin layers of ice forming on vehicles and open fields. The IMD has issued a dense to very dense fog warning for isolated places in Gurugram until Wednesday, emphasizing the need for caution in these areas.
