Delhi residents woke up to the city's coldest December morning yet, with the maximum temperature plummeting to 23.7°C on Wednesday. This marks a significant 1.6°C drop from the season's average, making it the second-lowest maximum temperature recorded this season. According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the lowest maximum temperature in November last year was a chilly 14.6°C. Wednesday's minimum temperature also took a hit, dipping to 6.4°C – 3.1°C below the normal average. As the city continues to shiver, the IMD has forecast moderate fog on Thursday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle at 23°C and 6°C, respectively. The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi predicts a mainly clear sky with shallow fog in the mornings, accompanied by cold wave conditions at isolated locations. The surface wind is expected to blow from the west at a moderate speed of up to 10 km/h during the morning hours, shifting to the northwest in the afternoon and evening. This wind pattern is likely to persist throughout the day, bringing some respite to the chilly conditions.
