Delhi's air quality has been stuck in a toxic rut, with the city recording its 21st consecutive day of 'very poor' air quality on Wednesday. The situation is exacerbated by a minimum temperature of 8°C, the lowest for November since 2022. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that cold northwesterly winds will continue to sweep through the city, keeping the minimum temperature around 8°C. This has led to an air quality index (AQI) of 333 at 9am on Wednesday, categorizing the air as 'very poor.' The AQI has been fluctuating between 'very poor' and 'severe' categories, with the highest reading of 494 recorded on November 18 last year. The city is expected to face another three days of 'very poor' air quality, with a slight improvement expected from November 28. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the city's air quality will remain in the 'severe' to 'very poor' categories until at least November 28. While a reprieve from the toxic air is expected, the city will have to endure another week of poor air quality. Delhi's air quality situation is a cause for concern, with the city facing its second-longest streak of 'very poor' air quality. The longest streak was recorded last year, with 32 consecutive days of 300+ AQI between October 30 and November 30. The city is on course to break this record, with the current streak showing no signs of abating.
