A Delhi court has acquitted former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in two cases lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for failing to appear before the agency despite summons. The cases were linked to the Delhi Excise Police case and the Delhi Waqf Board money laundering scandal. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order, citing non-compliance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED had charged Kejriwal with violating Section 50 of the PMLA, which requires individuals to comply with agency summons. The charges stemmed from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case registered in August 2022, which alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22. The ED subsequently launched a money laundering probe, which led to Kejriwal's arrest and eventual bail by the Supreme Court. Kejriwal's acquittal was not the only one in the Delhi court. Amanatullah Khan, the Okhla MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was also acquitted in a separate ED case related to the Delhi Waqf Board money laundering scandal. The court's detailed judgment is still awaited, but the acquittals come as a relief for the AAP leaders involved in the cases.
