Delhi residents are in for a break today as the city observes Shaheedi Diwas, commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru. The Delhi government has declared a public holiday in honor of the occasion. As part of the celebrations, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had earlier invited people to attend the three-day congregation at the Red Fort, which began on November 23. The event is a testament to the Guru's enduring legacy of courage, compassion, and the right to practice one's faith. So, what's closed today in Delhi? All government schools and some private schools will remain shut. Delhi government offices will also be closed. However, private and public sector banks will remain open, as per the Reserve Bank of India's regional holiday schedule. Emergency services and government hospitals will continue to function as usual. Delhi Metro, buses, and taxis will operate on their regular schedules. The Delhi government's decision to declare a public holiday aims to allow residents to participate in the celebrations and honor Guru Tegh Bahadur's legacy.
