In a bid to mitigate the adverse effects of severe air pollution, the authorities in Delhi-NCR have taken a crucial decision regarding school operations. As per the directive issued by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, students up to the fifth grade can opt for hybrid classes, combining both offline and online learning. This decision, effective from November 14, applies to schools in Delhi and Gurugram, where the air quality has been categorized as 'severe' with AQI levels above 400. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage-3 curbs under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region (NCR), prompting the chief minister's directive. In Gurugram, the Deputy Commissioner announced that schools will conduct hybrid classes for students up to Class V due to air pollution concerns. However, it's essential to note that this decision is specific to students of fifth grade and below, and parents or guardians should directly check with their respective schools for updates. The situation remains fluid in other NCR districts, including Faridabad in Haryana and Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) in UP, where there is no official information available on online or hybrid classes. As the air quality in Delhi-NCR continues to deteriorate, this measure aims to provide a safer learning environment for young students. It remains to be seen whether this initiative will have a significant impact on the air quality in the region.
