Delhi Police Crackdown: Over 2,000 Arrested in Historic Single-Day Operation Ahead of MCD Bypolls

In a massive crackdown, the Delhi Police arrested over 2,000 individuals in a 24-hour operation, 'Operation Kawach 11.0', aimed at stemming the tide of crime ahead of the MCD bypolls. The operation, which began on Monday evening, saw 908 police teams conduct over 1,500 raids across 15 police districts, targeting hotspots, repeat offenders, and vulnerable areas. The crackdown, which was the largest single-day coordinated enforcement action by the Delhi Police in recent years, resulted in the arrest of 80 individuals in connection with 76 NDPS cases, 273 in 273 excise cases, 100 in 99 Arms Act cases, and 213 in 117 Gambling cases. Additionally, 16 auto-lifters were arrested, 24 proclaimed offenders apprehended, and 1,500 taken into custody for drinking in public. According to officials, a total of 542 people were arrested under preventive measures, 2,516 taken into preventive custody, 23,387 detained under the Delhi Police Act, and 3,837 identified as 'bad characters'. Furthermore, 4,857 were prosecuted under the COTPA. The operation resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances, including over 282 grams of heroin, 19.235 kg of weed, 2.147 kg of opium, and 2.034 kg of charas. Additionally, 4,704 Tramadol capsules and ₹1.02 lakh in cash were seized. A major breakthrough came in Narela, where the Crime Branch arrested Lekh Raj alias Vicky with 4,704 Tramadol capsules and 200 gm of opium. Two Nepal nationals were also held with 2.034 kg of charas from a hotel in Sarita Vihar. The operation also saw the seizure of several bottles of liquor, one pistol, 13 country-made pistols, 6 live cartridges, 87 knives, and multiple vehicles. The Delhi Police has vowed to continue its efforts to maintain law and order in the city ahead of the MCD bypolls on November 30.
