As Republic Day approaches, the Delhi Police's Special Cell has identified around 1,000 unsupervised parking spots across the city, posing a potential security risk due to abandoned vehicles, lack of security protocols, and non-functional CCTV cameras. The mass survey, conducted from December 16 to mid-January, was intensified following the Red Fort blast in November 2025, which killed at least 12 people. According to senior officers, the Special Cell teams deployed across the city made important 'observations' and shared information with district deputy commissioners of police. However, due to a lack of response, the Special Cell approached the Delhi Police commissioner. "We've noted many small law and order, traffic, and deployment issues, but a major security risk are the unattended cars across Delhi," said a senior police officer. "We've identified over 1,000 parking lots, mostly unauthorised, with non-functional CCTV cameras and cars left for months or years.
