Delhi residents are bracing for another chilly week, with temperatures expected to dip below three degrees Celsius in the mornings. However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a slight reprieve from the biting cold by the end of the week. A feeble western disturbance is forecasted to bring a gradual rise in nighttime temperatures from Thursday onwards. On Wednesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius, still below the desired threshold. Dense fog also shrouded parts of Delhi and nearby areas, further exacerbating the cold conditions. The region has been experiencing a prolonged cold spell, with the mercury plummeting to a three-year low of 3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. According to the IMD, Delhi can expect cold conditions to prevail throughout the week, with chilly mornings and moderately warm afternoons. The city is expected to experience clear skies initially, followed by a brief cold wave that may bring slightly warmer days but frosty nights. Moderate fog is forecasted for most of the week, reducing visibility and intensifying the cold. The weather department has predicted a significant improvement in the minimum temperature by January 20, with a forecasted low of 9 degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to remain cautious during foggy periods, especially while commuting, as no major weather warnings are in place.
