In a bid to present its rich cultural heritage in the best possible light, the Delhi government has launched a massive clean-up and beautification drive in the historic Chandni Chowk market and the Red Fort area. The initiative, directed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aims to make Delhi a shining example of cleanliness, organisation, and civic pride. As India prepares to host the 20th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Red Fort from December 8 to 13, the government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the city's world-renowned heritage presents an attractive, clean, and organised appearance. The drive, which also includes the nearby Netaji Subhash Marg and localities, will see special sanitation, repainting, and beautification works undertaken to enhance the area's visual appeal. A large number of sanitation workers have been deployed to maintain cleanliness, while special staff are monitoring public toilets to ensure high standards. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for visiting dignitaries, the government is taking strict action against illegal encroachments, removing obstacles, and maintaining order in the market and surrounding areas. Unauthorised cycle rickshaws are being removed, and street-vending is being regulated to maintain a safe environment. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation are working together to implement a two-shift waste-collection system, ensuring round-the-clock cleanliness. Sprinklers are being used regularly to control dust and enhance the area's visual appeal. The government is also working closely with local traders and stakeholders to brief them on the forthcoming delegations and review improvements in sanitation, signage, lighting, and other arrangements. The ultimate goal of this campaign is to make Old Delhi permanently cleaner, more beautiful, and better organised. The Chief Minister has directed officials to maintain a world-class image of Delhi as it welcomes international guests. With work progressing at a rapid pace, the city is gearing up to showcase its rich cultural heritage and civic pride to the world.
