In a bid to tackle the severe air pollution crisis in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has formed a panel to oversee the situation and ensure accountability. The panel, comprising ministers, officials, and experts, will work closely with government departments to enforce penalties on all violators, including individuals and organizations. Delhi's air quality has deteriorated to 'very poor' for the third consecutive day, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 333 on Wednesday. Nehru Nagar recorded the highest AQI reading of 388, while Mandir Marg had the lowest at 236. The Central Government has issued a strict deadline for Delhi-NCR industries to install real-time emission monitoring systems and air pollution control devices by December 31. Failure to comply may result in closure. The Centre has also directed states in the region to finalize their 2026 air pollution control plans within a month. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court advised a petitioner to approach the Supreme Court, citing ongoing monitoring and orders related to air quality in the national capital. The Court emphasized that a similar matter is pending before the Supreme Court and that the situation is being closely monitored.
