The Supreme Court has directed the closure or shifting of nine toll plazas in Delhi to ease congestion and reduce pollution. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant questioned why officials couldn't announce a toll-free period until January. The court asked the National Highways Authority of India to consider relocating toll collection booths run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Some of the revenue from these booths could be diverted to compensate the MCD for temporary losses. The move aims to alleviate traffic congestion and pollution at the Delhi-Gurgaon border, which has been a pressing concern. The Supreme Court also emphasized the need for practical solutions to the pollution crisis, acknowledging its impact on livelihoods. In another decision, the court ordered the Delhi government to verify construction workers affected by pollution-related restrictions and transfer financial assistance directly to their bank accounts.
