Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar's comments on Sunday have sparked speculation that the power struggle within the state's Congress government may not be over. During a press conference, Shivakumar mentioned a potential visit to Delhi, which he likened to a 'temple' for Congressmen, implying a natural instinct to seek guidance from the party's high command. Shivakumar's remarks came a day after he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a joint press conference to project unity, despite earlier reports of a tussle over the top post. When asked about the power-sharing agreement between the two leaders, Shivakumar stated that he is aware of his limits as the state unit president and has not expressed any differences with the CM. According to sources, Siddaramaiah has offered Shivakumar the opportunity to take over as the state's top Congress leader from the next assembly polls onwards. Shivakumar emphasized that the focus is on the 2028 state election and 2029 Lok Sabha election, and the two leaders will work together to develop a strategy. The power struggle is fueled by a rumored half-term-each formula, which has not been officially confirmed by the party. The government completed half its term on November 20. The party's high command, comprising the Gandhis and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, has been monitoring the situation, with Kharge recently stating that intra-party issues should not be discussed in public.
