A special investigation team (SIT) probing the disputed skull found in Dharmasthala, India, has submitted a detailed report to a local court, shedding light on a complex conspiracy and alleged obstruction of justice. The 4,000-page report, which forms part of a perjury case, identifies six individuals, including CN Chinnaiah, who initially claimed to have buried multiple bodies in Dharmasthala. However, Chinnaiah later admitted that he had been handed the skull by others to support his false allegations. The SIT found that Chinnaiah's associates, including Mahesh Shetty Thimmarodi and Girish Mattannavar, had supplied the remains. The investigation team discovered that the skull had been retrieved from Bangalagudda in February 2024 by Vittal Gowda, Sowjanya's uncle, who recorded the act on video. The video was allegedly passed to Mattannavar. In recent weeks, the SIT excavated part of the Banglagudda hill, recovering eight skulls and additional skeletal remains. The remains have been sent for forensic examination. Investigators also found identification cards belonging to UB Ayyappa of T Shettigeri village in Kodagu and Adishesha Narayana of Gubbi in Tumakuru. The SIT officials have informed the court that some of the individuals named obstructed the inquiry when summoned. The submission of the report marks a significant development in the case, which has been marred by controversy and false allegations. The perjury case has been filed under Section 215 of the Indian Penal Code, and the investigation team has filed a separate preliminary charge sheet spanning 3,932 pages across seven files.
