Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar conducted a hearing on petitions seeking the disqualification of BRS MLA Danam Nagender for allegedly defecting to the Congress party. Petitions were filed by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and BJP leader A Maheshwar Reddy, citing anti-defection laws. The hearing witnessed a cross-examination of Kaushik Reddy by Nagender's lawyers, who questioned the basis of the disqualification plea and sought evidence to support defection claims. In response, Kaushik Reddy presented several pieces of evidence, including images of Nagender wearing a Congress scarf, allegedly demonstrating a formal shift in party affiliation. BJP leader Maheshwar Reddy also submitted an affidavit in support of his petition, but was unable to attend the hearing due to municipal elections. A further hearing on the BJP petition has been scheduled for February 18. The controversy began when Danam Nagender publicly stated he was with the Congress party, only to claim he remained in BRS and had not formally resigned from the party on Wednesday.
