The Election Commission of India has pushed back the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for 12 states and union territories. The enumeration drive and polling-station rationalization, initially set to conclude on December 4, will now wrap up on December 11. The revised schedule also affects the publication of the draft roll, which will now be released on December 16, a week later than originally planned. Preparation of the control table and draft roll will take place from December 12 to 15. Filing claims and objections will remain open until January 15, a week longer than initially intended. The verification, hearings, and disposal of claims and objections have also been extended, with the new deadline set for February 7. The final rolls will be published on February 14, a week later than the original target date of February 7. The revised timeline applies to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The changes follow feedback from field units, citing delays in form collection and verification in several districts. The Election Commission has circulated the revised schedule to chief electoral officers and state administrations, instructing them to update field teams and carry out the revised plan uniformly.
