Flight Disruptions Mount as Dense Fog Hits Delhi Airport: Centre Issues Passenger Safety Guidelines

The Indian government has issued a passenger advisory to airlines in response to widespread flight disruptions caused by dense fog and low visibility at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). The advisory, aimed at prioritizing passenger safety and convenience, requires airlines to provide timely and accurate flight information, meals and refreshments during delays, and refunds or rebooking in case of cancellations. A total of 177 flights were cancelled, and over 500 services were delayed at the airport on Friday, with some international flights also affected. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will oversee the uniform implementation of these measures and monitor airline compliance. Air India Express and IndiGo have already issued advisories, cancelling multiple flights and warning passengers of potential delays due to fog conditions. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport as winter fog conditions persist. With the country's largest airport, IGIA, typically handling around 1,300 flights daily, the Centre's advisory aims to minimize disruptions and ensure a smoother travel experience for passengers. The advisory also emphasizes the importance of assistance during diversions, special support for persons with disabilities, and effective grievance redressal.
