The Goa government has initiated the demolition of the Romeo Lane party shack, owned by Delhi-based entrepreneurs Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who fled to Thailand after a devastating fire at their nightclub in Arpora killed 25 people. The shack, which was the Luthras' first establishment in Goa, is set to be razed down today, as per an official order. This move comes after the Bombay High Court in December 2023 ordered the demolition of a 476 square meter encroachment on a public beach, citing Coastal Regulation Zone norms. The Luthras had previously been fined ₹11 lakh for the same encroachment, which reappeared after being demolished. The authorities have sealed all three of the Luthras' properties in Goa, including a boutique hotel in Assagao, pending the ongoing investigation into the fire. The property where the blaze occurred will not be demolished until the probe is complete, as it remains a crime scene.
