The deadly fire that engulfed Goa's Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub on December 6, killing at least 25 people and injuring six others, has led to the arrest of its co-owners, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra. The Goa Police, in a Delhi court, alleged that the Luthra brothers had ultimate control over the club's operations, including safety arrangements and events. The brothers, who fled to Thailand immediately after the incident, were deported and brought to India on Tuesday. They were subsequently taken to Goa on Wednesday after a Delhi court granted a 48-hour transit remand. According to the police, the fire was triggered by a fireworks event organized at the club without proper fire safety equipment. The investigation is ongoing, with the police seeking to uncover the conspiracy behind the incident. The police also alleged that the Luthra brothers had ignored safety norms, leading to the devastating fire. Eyewitnesses claim that the fire was caused by the use of cold pyro guns during a dance performance, which ignited the club's roof made of bamboo and fibre sheets. The Delhi court granted the transit remand, limiting it to 48 hours, and observed that there was sufficient material to indicate the involvement of the accused. The case will now be investigated further in Goa. The incident has highlighted the laxity of government officials in enforcing safety rules and has led to widespread outrage. The Goa Police is working to recover key documents, including licenses and event permissions, to unravel the mystery behind the fire.
