PANAJI, India - In a shocking turn of events, Goa police revealed that two foreign nationals, reportedly killed by Russian national Aleksei Leonov, are actually alive. The 37-year-old man was arrested in Arambol on January 16 for the murder of his live-in partner, Elena Kashtanova, a 37-year-old go-go and fire dancer. He claimed to have also killed Elena Vaneeva, a 37-year-old bubble artist, the night before, stating that the motive was a monetary dispute. However, Leonov's claims have been disputed, with police discovering that at least two women he claimed to have murdered are alive and have left the country. The investigation has so far only confirmed his role in the murder of the two Russian women. Police are verifying claims that he killed people in other parts of the country, including Himachal Pradesh, where he allegedly claimed to have killed about 10-12 women. The Russian Embassy has been notified about the incident, and the repatriation of the bodies of the two victims is underway. The police believe that Leonov's claims may be attempts to mislead investigators or exaggerated under the influence of psychotropic substances.
