A Bengaluru man is seeking urgent assistance for his stranded grandmother, who has been stuck at Qatar's Hamad International Airport for over 26 hours due to the eruption of Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano. The volcanic ash cloud has disrupted flights worldwide, affecting Indian airlines as well. Air India has cancelled 13 flights since Monday, with several passengers left stranded. One such passenger is Saswat Biswas's grandmother, a 70-year-old woman who was on her way from Doha to Kolkata with a transit in Delhi. Her visa has expired, leaving her unable to leave the airport. Although Air India has offered hotel accommodation to stranded passengers, sources reveal that hotel rooms were unavailable in Doha due to the ongoing soccer championship. Passengers, including Biswas's grandmother, had to make do with public seats at the airport, with some even going without lounge access. Biswas's grandmother and uncle have been surviving on public seats, with her medication still in her check-in baggage. The Delhi airport has also been affected, with seven international flights cancelled and over 10 delayed due to the volcanic ash plume. As Biswas's grandmother awaits a confirmed flight at 1 AM local time on Wednesday, he is seeking help to ensure her safety and comfort during this ordeal. The situation highlights the challenges faced by passengers stranded due to the volcanic eruption.
