Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations of rising crime and narcotics in the state. Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had claimed during the Congress Jan Aakrosh Yatra that Gujarat has become 'unsafe' due to increasing drug use, illegal liquor, and crime. In a counterattack, Gujarat ministers Jitu Vaghani and Rivaba Jadeja disputed Gandhi's claims, stating that women in Gujarat are the safest in the country. According to Jadeja, the state's crime rate against women is merely 1.48%, significantly lower than the national average of 4%. The Gujarat BJP minister also asserted that the party will win the 2027 Assembly elections with a landslide majority, while the Congress will be reduced to single-digit seats. Gujarat Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani criticized the Congress, stating that the party has been wiped out in 21 states under Rahul Gandhi's leadership. Vaghani also highlighted the BJP's efforts in public welfare, citing the payment of ₹1,100 crore in compensation to five lakh farmers affected by unseasonal rain. In response to the BJP's claims, the Congress released a list of 538 illegal liquor dens in the state during the concluding event of the party's Jan Aakrosh Yatra in north Gujarat. Congress leaders, including former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, alleged that the government is not taking action against the illegal liquor trade, despite seizures of narcotics worth trillions of rupees. Pilot also criticized the Centre, stating that institutions such as the Election Commission have been weakened, and the Chief Election Commissioner's conduct has been disappointing.
