In a record-breaking bid, a luxury vehicle number, HR-88-B-8888, fetched ₹1.17 crore in an online auction held in Haryana. The winning bidder, Sudhir Kumar, paid a participation fee of ₹10,000 and has a week to deposit the bid amount. However, the sale will only be finalized once the bid is confirmed. The auction, hosted on the portal fancy.parivahan.gov.in, saw 45 applications for the coveted number, with a base price of ₹50,000. The number is from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Kundli in the Sonipat district of Haryana. This phenomenon of fancy numbers has gained popularity across India, with a businessman in Kerala acquiring the KL-07-DG-0007 number for ₹45.99 lakh in April 2025. The love for unique numbers is driven by various reasons, including numerology, cultural significance, and a desire for exclusivity. In Chandigarh, the number '0001' of the CH01-DA series fetched ₹36.43 lakh in August this year. The trend highlights the growing demand for exclusive and unique vehicle numbers in India.
