Haryana Woman Arrested for Drowning 6-Year-Old Niece, Claiming She Was Jealous of Her Beauty

In a chilling incident, a woman in Haryana's Panipat was arrested for drowning her six-year-old niece during wedding festivities. Poonam, 30, from Siwah village, had been married in Bhawar village, Sonipat, to her cousin Naveen. The accused, who had a history of killing children, was presented in court and sent to police custody. According to the police, Poonam committed the crime on December 1 when she saw her niece, Sandeep's daughter, climbing the stairs. She then followed the child to the terrace, spoke to her, and drowned her in a plastic tub filled with water outside the storeroom. The police investigation revealed that Poonam had confessed to the crime, stating she was irritated by beautiful girls. This is not the first time Poonam has committed such a heinous crime. During interrogation, she revealed that she had killed three children earlier, including her own son in January 2023, and her cousin's 6-year-old daughter in August this year. The family had earlier considered the children's deaths accidental and performed their last rites. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter, and Poonam is currently in police custody. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the authorities are working to ensure that justice is served.
