A shocking incident of domestic violence has come to light in Hyderabad's Tilak Nagar, where a 32-year-old man is accused of murdering his 26-year-old wife by setting her ablaze. The victim, a hotel worker, succumbed to her injuries at Gandhi Hospital early on Wednesday. According to local police, the accused, K Venkatesh, a daily wage laborer, attempted to push their six-year-old daughter into the flames as well. However, the child managed to escape with minor injuries. Venkatesh had a history of harassing his wife, suspecting her of infidelity, for the past couple of years. The couple, who had moved to Hyderabad five years ago from their native Huzur Nagar in Nalgonda district, had two children, an eight-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter. On Wednesday morning, a passerby noticed flames emanating from the family's residence and alerted others. When the people who rushed to the scene found the 26-year-old woman engulfed in flames, her children were crying in distress. Venkatesh has been arrested and booked under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder. He will be produced in court for judicial remand. The family members had handed over the victim's body to them after the post-mortem on Thursday. The police investigation suggests that Venkatesh doused his wife with petrol and set her ablaze. The daughter, who was sleeping next to her mother, was pushed towards her before Venkatesh fled the scene. Fortunately, the child escaped with minor injuries and is under the care of her relatives.
