A fatal accident marred the Dubai Air Show on Friday when a Tejas fighter jet crashed during a demonstration flight. Eyewitnesses described seeing black smoke billowing over the airport as the crowd watched in shock. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed that the pilot, Wing Commander Namansh Syal, did not survive the crash. The incident occurred at around 2:10 pm local time, and the IAF has launched a court of inquiry to determine the cause of the accident. In a statement, the IAF expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and praised the late pilot as 'brave and courageous'. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have also condoled the pilot's death, with Singh describing him as a 'true patriot' and Gandhi offering his condolences to the family. The Dubai Air Show, which has seen major aircraft orders from Emirates and FlyDubai, was briefly interrupted by the incident. This is the second reported crash involving the Tejas fighter jet, with the previous incident occurring in March 2024 near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The IAF has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent such incidents in the future.
