The Indian Air Force (IAF) is reeling from the shock of losing one of its bravest pilots, Wing Commander Namansh Syal, who died in a tragic crash of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA Mk-1) at the Dubai Airshow on Friday. A veteran IAF official has described the incident as a wake-up call for the entire system, calling for a thorough investigation into the mechanical or technical causes of the crash. Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor (Retd) said that the FDR (Flight Data Recorder) and CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder) would be extracted to determine the exact cause of the accident. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the fighter jet crashing on the ground and exploding into a fireball while performing low-level aerobatic manoeuvres. The crash occurred on the final day of the five-day airshow, which began on November 17. This is the second major incident involving the India-built single-engine fighter jet since its induction into the IAF in July 2016. In March 2024, a Tejas fighter jet crashed near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, but the pilot ejected safely. The IAF has announced a court of inquiry to investigate the cause of the accident and has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased pilot. Defence experts have urged patience, saying that the real reasons for the crash would only be known after the investigation is completed. The nation is in mourning, with the IAF standing firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief. The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, with many expressing their condolences and support for the family of the deceased pilot.
