A 25-year-old woman, daughter of a senior IAS officer, was found dead in her family home in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. The police have launched an investigation, suspecting it to be a case of death by suicide. However, the deceased's husband has filed a counter-complaint, alleging that her parents were trying to end the marriage and harass her mentally. According to the police, the couple eloped in March and were in a relationship for around two years. The bride's parents claimed that her husband was demanding additional dowry and harassing her. In contrast, the husband alleged that the bride's parents were pressuring her to leave him and marry someone else. The husband, in his representation to the police, claimed that the bride was being mentally harassed and was in a vulnerable state. He also alleged that she was pregnant and that her parents did not consider her well-being. The police have registered a case under Section 80 (dowry deaths) against the husband and are waiting for the post-mortem report. The investigation is ongoing, and both parties' claims are being probed. This tragic incident has raised concerns about the increasing cases of dowry harassment and the need for a fair and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The family's influence and the police's handling of the case have also been questioned, with the husband alleging that they are trying to divert the case.
