India's air traffic has been closely monitored due to the ash plumes from a recent volcanic eruption in Ethiopia. Despite the disruptions, the civil aviation ministry has assured that flight operations across the country remain smooth. The ash plume, which traveled across Yemen, Oman, and the Arabian Sea, entered India on Monday evening, affecting Gujarat and Rajasthan. It then moved towards Delhi and across eastern and northeastern regions on Tuesday. The ministry is working with international aviation agencies, the India Meteorological Department, and airlines to ensure seamless coordination. The Airports Authority of India has issued necessary NOTAM and informed affected flights. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the ash cloud is moving towards China and is expected to leave India by 7:30 pm local time on Tuesday. The impact of the volcanic ash is being seen only in the upper troposphere, affecting flight operations, but it has no effect on air quality and weather. According to IMD director general Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the volcanic ash is expected to completely move towards China by evening. Narottam Sahoo, an advisor to the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology, explained that the Ethiopian volcano became active after 12,000 years due to tectonic activity in the region. The civil aviation ministry has assured that there is no cause for concern, and passenger safety is a top priority. The ministry will provide timely updates on the situation to ensure seamless travel experience for passengers.
