India has strongly condemned Pakistan's strikes on a hospital in Afghanistan's Kabul, which left at least 400 people dead and over 250 injured.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the strikes 'barbaric, cowardly and unconscionable' and accused Pakistan of trying to 'dress up a massacre as a military operation'.

The government also stated that the timing of the attack, during the holy month of Ramzan, makes it even more reprehensible.

India called on the international community to hold those behind the strikes responsible and ensure that Pakistan's targeting of civilians in Afghanistan stops.

Pakistan has denied attacking the premises, claiming that it only targeted military establishments in Afghanistan.

The hospital, with a 2,000-bed capacity, was a drug rehabilitation centre where many were undergoing treatment.

Witnesses described the scene as 'doomsday' with loud screams for help and not enough people around to assist.
