India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly rejected Pakistan's claim that its request for using Indian airspace to transport humanitarian aid to cyclone-hit Sri Lanka was denied. The MEA termed Pakistan's statement 'ridiculous' and accused Islamabad of spreading anti-India misinformation. According to the MEA, Pakistan's request for overflight clearance was received on December 1, 2025, and was processed 'expeditiously' the same day. Permission was granted at 5:30 PM on December 1, as per the proposed itinerary. This development comes after reports emerged that Pakistan's request was cleared within four hours, sparking accusations of Pakistan's media peddling fake news. The MEA reiterated its commitment to assisting the people of Sri Lanka through all available means, despite Pakistan's decision to ban Indian airlines from using its airspace. The MEA clarified that India's decisions on airspace permissions are based on standard operational, technical, and security assessments, rather than political considerations. This humanitarian gesture by India is seen as a significant move, given the challenging situation in Sri Lanka.
