India Deploys C-130 & IL-76 Aircraft to Sri Lanka Amid Cyclone Relief Efforts

India has swiftly launched Operation Sagar Bandhu, a humanitarian assistance mission to Sri Lanka, following the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah. The Indian Air Force has deployed two transport aircraft, a C-130 and an IL-76, from Hindan Air Base, airlifting 21 tonnes of critical relief materials and over 80 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to Colombo. According to the IAF, essential rations and vital supplies have been delivered to support affected communities. The deployment of these aircraft marks a significant step in India's efforts to bolster relief efforts in Sri Lanka. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared an update on X, stating that another IL-76 aircraft had landed in Colombo, carrying 9 tonnes of relief material and two urban search and rescue teams. The total amount of relief material delivered by air and sea now stands at around 27 tons, with more on the way. Operation Sagar Bandhu has seen the first tranche of relief materials being handed over after being transported by the Indian Navy's aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and frontline ship INS Udaigiri. The severe weather conditions in Sri Lanka have resulted in over 50 deaths and affected more than 43,900 people from 12,313 families. India's swift response and commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka reflect the country's 'Neighborhood First' policy. The ongoing efforts aim to support the affected communities and provide relief to those in need.
