New Delhi: India has firmly asserted that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country, responding to China's claim over the territory. The situation unfolded when a UK-based Indian citizen, Prema Wangjom Thongdok, was traveling from London to Japan with a layover in Shanghai. However, her three-hour layover turned into a traumatic experience when immigration personnel declared her passport invalid due to her birthplace being listed as Arunachal Pradesh. China's foreign ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, refuted allegations of harassment, claiming that the woman was treated according to laws and regulations. However, India's MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, countered, saying that Arunachal Pradesh is an inalienable part of India, a fact that cannot be changed by China's denial. The incident has sparked outrage in India, with Arunachal Pradesh's chief minister, Pema Khandu, expressing 'deep shock' over the racial mockery Prema Wangjom Thongdok was subjected to. India has consistently rejected China's claims over Arunachal Pradesh, and the recent incident has further strained relations between the two countries. China has been attempting to lay claim to the region by renaming towns and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh. The MEA has taken up the issue strongly with the Chinese side, demanding an explanation for their actions, which are in violation of international air travel conventions and China's own regulations. The incident has highlighted the ongoing tensions between India and China over the disputed territory of Arunachal Pradesh.
