India's Energy Future: Jaishankar Meets IEA Chief in Paris, Discusses Oil Markets & Nuclear Power

India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar is on a six-day diplomatic visit to France and Luxembourg, focusing on energy cooperation and bilateral ties. On Monday, he met with International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol in Paris to discuss pressing global energy issues, including oil markets, nuclear power, and critical minerals. According to Jaishankar's social media post, he appreciated Birol's assessment of the global energy scenario and his support for India's growth and development. Birol, in turn, described their meeting as "warm and productive," highlighting India's strong commitment to becoming a full IEA member. During his France visit, Jaishankar will meet with the French leadership, including Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot, and hold talks on key areas of cooperation. He will also visit Luxembourg, where he will engage with Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel and other senior leaders. The French-Indian Young Talents Program was another highlight of Jaishankar's Paris visit, where he interacted with participants and emphasized the importance of India-France collaboration in the face of global transformations.
