India's foreign tourist arrivals continued to decline in the second quarter of 2025, reaching a low of 16.48 lakh in April-June, according to data presented in Parliament on Monday. This figure represents a significant drop from 26.15 lakh in the previous quarter, January-March. The cumulative foreign tourist arrivals for the first three quarters of the year stood at 61.83 lakh, as stated by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written response to a Lok Sabha query. The minister attributed the decline to a drop in arrivals from Bangladesh and other factors, including seasonal variations and the prevailing geopolitical scenario. To address the decline, the Ministry of Tourism has implemented several initiatives to promote India as a safe and attractive global tourism destination. These efforts include the Swadesh Darshan scheme, which provides financial assistance to states and central agencies for developing tourism infrastructure. Additionally, the ministry has been working with state governments to establish dedicated tourism police forces to ensure the safety and security of tourists. While the decline in foreign tourist arrivals is concerning, the Ministry of Tourism remains committed to promoting India's tourism industry and providing a world-class experience for international visitors.
