The Union Ministry of Culture has pledged support to Arunachal Pradesh in preserving its rich manuscript heritage. A three-member state delegation recently met with Union Secretary Vivek Aggarwal to seek assistance for the conservation of rare Buddhist and indigenous manuscripts in five districts. The delegation highlighted the significance of the Lik-Thai manuscripts of Namsai, ancient Buddhist Kangyur scriptures, and other rare indigenous collections. A detailed presentation showcased extensive field documentation in Tawang, West Kameng, Shi-Yomi, Upper Siang, and Namsai districts, revealing rare manuscripts and traditional scripts linked to the Mahabharata and Ramayana. With age, climate, and inadequate archival facilities posing a threat to these materials, the central government has announced the dispatch of an expert team to initiate scientific documentation, digitization, and conservation. Additionally, a dedicated manuscript and digitization support cell will be established at the ministry to ensure coordinated assistance to the state.
