India has strongly reacted to China's claims that a woman from Arunachal Pradesh was not detained at Shanghai airport, affirming that the northeastern state is an integral part of the country. The External Affairs Ministry issued a statement after China's Foreign Ministry denied allegations that the woman, who holds a valid Indian passport, was arbitrarily detained during a transit in Shanghai. According to a UK-based Indian citizen, Pema Wangjom Thongdok, she was subjected to a traumatic experience when immigration personnel at Shanghai International Airport questioned the validity of her passport due to Arunachal Pradesh being listed as her birthplace. Thongdok was traveling from London to Japan on November 21. China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to the incident, stating that the woman was not subjected to any compulsory measures or harassment, but rather followed the laws and regulations of China's border inspection authorities. However, the External Affairs Ministry rejected these claims, stating that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and that China's actions are in violation of international conventions and their own regulations. India's Foreign Ministry has issued a strong demarche to the Chinese authorities, and the Indian Consulate in Shanghai has taken up the matter, providing assistance to the stranded passenger. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also expressed deep shock over the incident, calling the treatment meted out to the woman 'appalling' and asserting that Arunachal Pradesh will always be an integral part of India.
