India Takes a Giant Leap in Sustainable Energy: CSIR Unveils Green Hydrogen Test Facilities

Jamshedpur - India has made a significant stride towards a greener future with the launch of cutting-edge green hydrogen test facilities at the CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML). The initiative, a part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aims to boost indigenous hydrogen production in the country. This pioneering project will be a one-of-a-kind facility in India, setting the stage for a sustainable energy revolution. The foundation stone was laid by N Kalaiselvi, Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), on the occasion of CSIR-NML's platinum jubilee foundation day. Celebrating the laboratory's 75 years of excellence, Kalaiselvi emphasized the importance of developing indigenous technologies to overcome global challenges. As the first woman to hold the position, she highlighted CSIR's contributions to India's global standing. Kalaiselvi, also the secretary of the department of scientific and industrial research, government of India, emphasized the need for technological advancements to meet future needs. She encouraged collaboration with startups to achieve the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and viksit Bharat 2047. The event coincided with Constitution Day, commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949. Established in 1950, CSIR-NML is one of the first laboratories set up under the leadership of Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar. In a message of congratulations, Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, praised NML for its contributions to India's capabilities in minerals, metals, and materials. NML director Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury underscored the institution's commitment to strengthening metallurgical research, supporting industrial growth, and delivering scientific solutions of national importance.
