India Unveils First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: A Game-Changer in Long-Distance Overnight Travel

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country's first Vande Bharat sleeper train on January 17, marking a significant milestone in the nation's long-distance overnight rail travel. The train, designed for overnight and long-distance journeys, is set to revolutionize travel between Howrah in West Bengal and Guwahati in Assam, a critical corridor that sees heavy daily passenger movement. The Vande Bharat sleeper train is equipped with 16 modern coaches, offering improved comfort, safety, and reliability. With the ability to operate at speeds of up to 180 kmph, this train is expected to reduce travel time by nearly three hours, saving passengers from the grueling 17-hour journey currently taken by the Saraighat Express. The train features ergonomically designed sleeping berths, automatic doors with vestibules, and USB charging ports, making it a premium yet affordable alternative to air travel. Indicative fares start at ₹2,300 for 3 AC, ₹3,000 for 2 AC, and ₹3,600 for First AC. With the introduction of the Vande Bharat sleeper train, passengers can expect a smoother and more comfortable ride, thanks to its advanced suspension system, aerodynamic design, and advanced fire safety system. The train is also equipped with modern toilets, advanced disinfectant technology, and onboard catering services, offering region-specific cuisine. The Vande Bharat sleeper train is part of India's efforts to expand its high-speed rail network, which has already operationalized 164 services across 274 districts, carrying over 7.5 crore passengers. With its cutting-edge features and improved travel experience, this train is set to become a benchmark for long-distance overnight travel in India.
